Shall We Dance?

The popular and romantic Tango has appeared in many movies such as True Lies, Shall We Dance and Never Say Never Again.  More recently the dance appeared right here when The Louisville Tango Festival hosted world class dancers from Argentina in a weekend of dance workshops and performances.  The Tango is often used in movies because of its dramatic feeling and its cultural associations with romance as is evident in this image from the recent event.

My wife, Julie and I connected with one of the organizers of the festival, Christy Byers, when we learned to dance last fall for our 30th anniversary, our gift to each other.  It surprises me to say that this is among the most fun things we've ever done.  Though we've not yet tackled the Tango, it may be in our future.  If you'd like to see more photos from this event visit The Louisville Tango Festival.  If you are interested in learning to dance, and I recommend that you do, visit Blair's Ballroom and talk to Christy.

“Great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion.”

What to Wear

A question we are asked almost daily when we consult our client on there new business portrait is, what should I wear? Here are some basic guidelines.

Wear what you think you like best and bring 2 alternate choices. Contrary to popular belief, there are no absolutes when selecting wardrobe for portraits. Feel free to bring anything that makes you feel like a million bucks. Make sure clothing is cleaned, pressed and fits you well.
Men – Dark, solid jackets with a colored shirt and a colorful tie seem to make the best shots. Alternatively, a coat and dress shirt, no tie is also a great look.
Women – Medium to dark, solid colors are the way to go. Alternatively rich jewel-toned wardrobe (red, blue, green, purple) will also pop. Please avoid pastels or colors that wash out unless you pair it with a dark jacket, sweater, or scarf. EXCEPTION: A white or cream suit can look really great.
Clothes to Avoid
Busy patterns. tweeds or plaids (they will appear to move in digital format).
Sleeveless or short-sleeved shirts (your arms will distract from your face).
Turtlenecks (you will look like a floating head).
Deep, plunging necklines.

Jewelry is best simple unless your style is flashy and it is a signature for you. In that case, go for it.

Wow! It's always exciting to see the progress of the bridges project. The downtown bridge is easy to see progress, most of us drive thru it everyday. The bridge on the east end and the extension of 265 changes daily, you can see progress on the complete route. sm_1361071114

What makes a good headshot?

Great headshots are one of the most challenging photographs to do well. There is a combination of expert lighting, posing, chemistry between the client and the photographer as well as the right wardrobe and environment for the particular industry the headshot will represent. Solid colors always bring attention to the face. We craft a relaxed, yet confident and personable image that tells your audience you are the best in the industry. Our process always includes a pre-session consultation where we learn what your professional image goals entail to craft a session that best describes you. We will discuss clothing choices as well as other suggestions to make sure you will stand out.10477665_10152098232100881_3956904061293600965_o

Why a good corporate image is good for you business.

As the world has become an online mechanism for doing business, your headshot is the first impression you are making to prospective clients to make that initial contact. A distinctive headshot is going to make you stand out against your competition and gain the trust of the prospective client enough to make that initial call. It is not just a picture; it is your professional image and brand. A brand that shows attention to detail and that you are in command of your industry as a leading expert. Make a list of how you’d like your customers to perceive you and your business professionally. Take a look at your current photo – does it communicate any of the things you listed?First impressions only happen once, and increasing your chances to be the one contacted ahead of your competitor is critical in a saturated market.FB0199

River Ridge Commerce Center - Demolition

This event received a lot of press when it happened a couple weeks ago.  We were fortunate to cover it for our client out of Atlanta from the ground and the air.  With all that dust, you can see the helicopter was the choice spot.  This quick video gives you a real sense of what it was like on the ground and the photos show the vantage point from the air.  Fun job! Tafel Motors showroom in Louisville, KY

We could talk all day about how our clients like us, but we find they say it best themselves. Nothing says I love what you did like a quick thank you note from a client confessing they immediately created a webpage to share the images with their project team....
Wow, great job on the photos. I sent the email below to the members of the project team with a link to a quick little web page I made. ~ John Hawkins, Kovert Hawkins 8/30/2011

Now in beautiful historic downtown New Albany

We've just passed one year in our new downtown office. I could say we celebrated but that would be a lie. The year mark came and went...much like the year. Our new space is great and we've kept pace with our growing commercial photography client base. Right now I'm testing the new Blogger app on my iPhone. Should make blog updates easy and relevant to current happenings here at Morris Images. Location photography begs for good mobile marketing. Speaking of mobile, check back here for the new Tafel Motor images and testimonial from our client, Kovert Hawkins.
